The Forth Bridge
More than 120 years after it was opened in 1890 this bridge is probably still the most impressive visible feet of engineering in Scotland. It spans a distance of over 2,500m. It was the first major project in the UK to use steel rather than wrought iron, the steel being produced in two Scottish steel mills and one in Wales.
