Wig Bay, Loch Ryan
Loch Ryan was used as a sheltered location for Flying boats from the 1920's. During WWII it became the largest flying boat base in Britain, American Catalinas were brought here to be converted for the use by RAF. The field behind Wig Bay still has the concrete hard standings, which can be seen in this photo, where the aircraft were parked. The concrete slipway at the car park is where they would be hauled out of the sea. Map location
