The ruins of Ardvreck Castle
This view of Ardvreck shows just how little of it is left. Built around 1590 by the Clan Maclead who owned much of the Assynt area of Sutherland. Clan Mackenzie attacked the castle in 1672 and took control of the MacLeod lands. The MacKenzies built a large house nearby in 1726 but it burnt down only 10 years later in mysterious circumstances, perhaps a Macleod with a grudge!
