Built in the 13th century it was then thought to have been damaged in the Wars of Independence before being rebuilt in the 14th century to what you see today. By the end of the 17th century the castle was in ruins but restoration works in the 1880 replaced the timber roofs and internal fittings. More recently it is perhaps best known for its use in the Monty Python film, The Holy Grail and also the tv series, Outlander. Map location
