The Postie Stone, near Moffat
As you drive at speed along the modern A701 north of Moffat you might get a glimpse of this Memorial at the side of the road. It commemorates a bleak night in 1831 when the driver and guard of the horse drawn Edinburgh to Dumfries Mail Coach lost their lives in a snow storm at this remote spot in an attempt to get the mail through. If you take walk round the grave yard in the centre of Moffat you'll find an impressive gravestone for the two men.
