Built around 1790 it replaced a previous mansion house. In 1815 it was extended to form Armadale Castle but a fire in 1855 destroyed much of the original house which was rebuilt as you see today. The house and castle have been associated with Clan Donald since the 17th century but in 1925 they moved out into a smaller house leaving this one to the elements. The grounds contain The Museum of the Isles, giving a history of the MacDonalds on Skye.
