Its difficult to find any recognisable parts left of the Cowden Hall built in 1860 by Robert Orr, the Mill owner. This, I suspect, is part of what was the walled garden, it has been said to have had buried steam pipes to heat the soil. The Orr family lived in the house until 1914 when it was used as a convalescant home during the first World War. I am told it was occupied in one form or another until the 1960's when it was demolished. Absolutely nothing remains of the house itself.
