Gifted to Barrhead by the wife of James Maxton after his death in 1946. Maxton was one of the best known MP's of the 1920s and 1930s. He dedicated his life to working against poverty, unemployment and social injustice. In the House of Commons he was know as one of the 'Red Clyde' revolutionaries. He was born in Pollockshaws in 1885 but moved to Barrhead in 1888. Map location.
