Between 1968 and 1996 the 4 Resolution class Polaris Missile Submarines patrolled from their home port of Faslane Naval Base on the Clyde. As can be seen from the picture there were 16 missiles on each boat, each armed with two 225kt warheads (10 times that of Hiroshima) giving a total destructive power of 7.2Mt per boat. Normally only one boat would be on patrol but the Royal Navy had enough missiles and warheads to arm 3 boats if they were servicable.
