Front aspect of Dunlop House
The present Jacobean style Dunlop House was built in 1833 for Sir John Dunlop. It stands on the site of a much older "fortified" house that dated from 1599. It lies in extensive grounds just outside the village of Dunlop. In 1933 the house was taken over by Ayrshire Council and was used as a 60 bed long stay hospital, more recently it was used by RFI Ltd as an Electromagnetic Interference test site. In 1971 it was category A listed.
