The old Employment Exchange, Govan
Before the days of Job Seekers Plus you went to the Ministry of Labour Employment exchange to look for a job. This building dates from 1931 and was used as the 'buroo' office up until about 1980. It was apparently the last employment exchange to be heated by a coal fired boiler. The small grey rectangle to the right of the shuttered door is probably where the coal was loaded into the building. The foreboding gate with with spikes on the right hand extreme was the 'claimants entrance'.
