Hillman Imp, Transport Museum, Glasgow
The Hillman Imp was built between 1963 and 1976 at Linwood just outside Paisley. The Rootes car company of Coventery built a new factory at Linwood to manufacture the car. It used an aluminium rear engine and was designed to compete with the Mini. There were numerous industrial troubles at the Linwood factory and it was later taken over by Chrysler who eventually closed it down in 1981.
