The south Tower as it stands today. It was reconstructed in 1667 after the castle was bombarded during a siege by Oliver Cromwell in 1650. The Castle surrendered and was abandoned at that point. The opening in the wall on the right is the original entrance which was blocked when the caponier on the left was constructed between 1534 and 1540.
