This is the original Cumbrae lighthouse, built in 1756 it gave out its first light on 8th December 1757 following the passing of the Cumray Lighthouse Act on 15th April 1756. Today the building a shell with no internal floors, a fire beacon would have been burnt on the open top. The lighthouse is located at the highest point in the centre of the Island and can easily be seen from the mainland. Map location.
