An unusually clear view of Ailsa Craig from the Ayrshire coast south of Girvan. It was used as a haven for Catholics during the reformation in Scotland, a prison during the 18th and 19th century and as a quarry for the special granite used in the making of curling stones. Today there are no inhabitants other than large numbers of Gannets and a growing numbers of Puffins. The lighthouse you can see on the right was automated in 1990.
