A view of the Bow of Ark Royal taken at the historic docks in Portsmouth. The Phalanx close in weapon system behind the flag was an addition after lessons learnt during the Falklands war with her sister ship, Invincible. Behind the lamp post at the bow you can just see the Sea Dart missile launcher, this was at the time a state of the art Air defence missile. During a later refit the system was removed from all the Invincible class ships.
