Stirling Bridge, Stirling
Built around 1500 it was at that time the lowest crossing of the River Forth and remained so for another 400 years.  In 1745 the southernmost was blown up by General Blackney to prevent Highlanders from crossing.   There was an earlier wooden structure here in 1297 when William Wallace defeated the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.  .
