Offices of the former Shanks factory, Barrhead, 2008

The rather depressing view of what is left of the offices of the old Shanks pottery in Barrhead, in its heyday it Barrhead's largest employer and covered a vast site. In 1969 Shanks merged with the English company of Armitage and in 1992 the Barrhead site was closed with the loss of 300 jobs. The name Armitage Shanks still exists but all links to Barrhead are now gone.
