The Moat, Lochmaben Castle
The ruins of the 14th century Lochmaben Castle. What you see here is some of the more intact part of what remains. The problem is that after it fell into disuse the facing stones were 'robbed' for other buildings. The lower stone near the water is what the castle would have been faced with so what remains is mostly the rough stone that was behind this to give the wall its strength.
