The Mercat Cross, Banff
The exact history of the Mercat cross in Banff is unclear but it is thought to date from around 1540. In 1768 it was removed from its position on the present day site of the Biggar Fountain and placed on top of a Dovecot in a field. In 1900 after an absence of 132 years it was returned to its present location in front of the Town House
