The Hamilton Mausoleum, Hamilton
Built for the 10th Duke of Hamilton, it cost £30,000 and took 15 years to construct starting in 1842. The Duke did not live to see its completion. It was found that the upper part which was to be a place of worship had such a long echo (up to 15 seconds) that it was unusable.
