The name Fordyce has appeared over the years as Fuardeas, Fordis and Fordys, and means "the cold South". Christian worship took place here for over a thousand years. It only ended when a new Kirk was built on the west side of Fordyce in 1804. The church established here was dedicated to Talarican (Tarquin) who is believed to have been of Irish descent and came to these parts to spread the Christian Gospel. Map location.
