The 'Hood' stones, Loch Eribol
Loch Eriboll was once a popular anchorage for Royal Navy ships, in 1935 when anchored there, some crew members of the Battle Cruiser HMS Hood climbed this hill to lay stones in the name of the ship. Recently they have been repainted by pupils from Durness Primary school. Without climbing the hill the best way to see them is on the opposite side of the loch from around Eriboll Church. With a bit of imagination you can see the name Hood in the lower part of the photo.
