Hollyrood Palace, Edinburgh
Situated at the eastern end of the Royal Mile it was founded by James IV as a royal residence in 1498.  The buildings you see today mostly date from around 1671.  Adjacent to the Palace can be seen the ruins of Hollyrood Abbey, dating from 1128.
