The Cromarty Firth
Today the Cromarty firth is used for anchoring unused oil rigs but before World War II broke out it was recognised that this sheltered area was an ideal natural harbour for the Home Fleet. Massive defences were built around the bay and a submarine net placed across the entrance. Invergordon is now a common stopping point for cruise liners.
