Built between 1804-1808 by Thomas Telford. An attempt was made in 1803 to span the river but whilst still under construction it was destroyed by floods. Telford was then brought it and proposed a more substantial design at twice the cost, since its still standing 200 years later it seems to have been worth it. The main span is 34m and the unusual gothic styling was the work of Alexander Nasmyth. Map location.
