There is little left today that tells the story of RAF Oban other than some concrete slip ways and retaining walls. From 1933 until 1945 this was the maintenance base for sea planes that flew from Kerrera across the bay. It was part of RAF Coastal Command and played a vital role in searching for U-Boats during WWII. The flag pole on the right is where a memorial was erected in 1998 to those who served at RAF Oban.
