Built between 1565 and 1572 by John Carswell Bishop of the Isles for the Reformed Church. Although it has the appearance of a tower house it seems this was just to give it a medieval look and it was built as a residence rather than a defensive structure. The Castle was captured and partly blown up during the rebellion against James VII in 1685. Map location
