This late 15th early 16th century castle was the seat of the lairds of Johnstone from 1733 and hugely extended in 1812. After use as HQ for a prisoner of War camp it lost its castellated wings in 1956 and was left abandoned. At the time this photo was taken in 2005 its new owners were in the process of converting it into a private home. Map location.
