Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt, Fairford, 1993
The A-10 entered service with the US Air Force in 1977, its primary role was ground attack.  The airfame was designed around the 30mm canon that protudes from the nose.  It had some 540kg of titanium armour around the cockpit and avionics and was designed to be highly survivable to enemy fire.  It provied itself very effect in the 1991 gulf war during operation Desert Sheild.
