Kinloss was one of the most northerly yet influential monasteries in Scotland, founded in 1150 for the Cistercian Order. It maintained religious and secular control over parts of the North East of Scotland until its demise in 1560. In 1650 the Abbey was reduced to what you see today when the stone was robbed for Invreness Citadel
