Ruins of Bernara Barracks, Glenelg
Built between 1717 and 1723 as a result of the first Jacobite uprising of 1715. After the uprising the government garrisoned troops here and in other locations in the highlands in an attempt to supress the locals. This location was also chosen because it allowed control of the main crossing to Skye. You can still cross to Skye here by a small 6 car ferry in summer.
