Evening sun on Skipness Castle
The first castle here was built around 1200 by Clan McSween although it has had a great deal added since then. It later became the stronghold of the MacDonalds and much of what you see dates from their reconstruction around 1300 including the curtain wall you see here. The Island of Arran can be seen in the background. Map location.
