North Strome is where the ferry used to cross the narrowest part of loch Carron when the first road was built on the north side of the Loch in 1809. The ferry operated at this jetty until 1970 when the stromeferry by-pass was built in 1970 (A890) but in recent years this road has suffered from closures due to rock falls and varies new routes are being looked at, including a bridge across the narrows here.
