Quintins Hill Rail Disaster Memorial, Gretna

If by some misfortune you find yourself at the Old Blacksmiths visitor centre, spare a few minutes to look for this memorial in the car park at the rear. It is in memory of the 227 people who died here on the 22nd May 1915. It remains to this day the UK's worst ever rail crash. It is not widely known about since it mainly involved troops at a time of war when news was being censored. The rail line can be seen in the distance marked by the power line poles.
