Bridge of Oich
This double cantilever bridge over the river Oich just south of Fort Augustus was opened in 1854. It replaced an earlier stone bridge that was destroyed by floods. James Dredge from Bath in Somerset designed the new Iron Bridge. The design differs from other suspension bridges in that it is lighter since the chains get thinner towards the centre.
