This was the house of the Famous Scottish Novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott. He first bought a farmhouse here in 1811 and between 1817 and 1823 gradually added new parts until the original house was gone. The house set the standard of what has become to be known as "Scots Barononial" style of architecture. Abbotsford was first opened to the public in 1833.
