Sandside House and garden, Reay, Caithness
Sandside house dates from 1751. It was once owned by Thomas Pilkington, of Pilkington Glass fame. The house still has an attractive and well kept garden. It is not normally open to the public but this occasion was a charity event. The owner took the UK Atomic Energy Authority to court over radioactive contamination of Sandside bay which is part of the estate. He won the case and the UKAEA now have to perform regular monitoring of the beach.
