A view of the Nigg Construction yard from the Black Isle. Built in 1971 for the construction of North Sea oil rig jackets, at its height it employed around 5,000 people. It closed in 2000 but in 2011 the yard was bought by the Global Energy Group and is now in use again but employing only a fraction of the workforce it had in the past.
