Threave Castle, Castle Douglas
The main tower was built by the 3rd earl of Douglas between 1369 and 1390. The outer wall was rebuilt around 1455 after James II captured the castle. The castle sits on an island in the middle of the river Dee west of Castle Douglas. It has been a ruin since 1640 when the Covenanters captured it after a 13 week seige.
