The turbine hall at Tongland Power Station, near Kirkudbright
This is the last in a chain 6 Power stations that make up the Galloway Hydros.  Tongland is the largest, capable of generating up to 33MW of power from the 106ft head of water at Tongland Dam.  The station is generally used in winter when the water levels in the rivers are high.  Tongland has a visitor centre that opens in the summer months with guided tours.
