The Commore Dam and Neilston Pad
The road in the centre of the picture is the old 'switchback' from Neilston to Kimlarnock. Driving along this road in a car is about as close as you can get to a roller coaster. Even by 1820 it was realised it wasn't good enough and the new 'turnpike' was built along the Levern valley to Irvine, Ayr and Kilmarnock at the amazing cost of ?18,000.
