Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness
It is not known exactly when the castle was built here but it is thought to date from the 13th century. It is known that King Edward I of England captured it in 1296. At the time it was one of the largest medieval castles in Scotland and although ruined is still an impresive sight perched on the edge of Loch Ness. This view is looking East with Urquhart Bay and Loch Ness in the background. Map location.
