Iona Abbey, Isle of Iona
After the reformation in 1560 Iona Abbey lay empty and ruined.  In 1899 the Duke of Argyll transferred ownership of the buildings to the Iona Cathedral Trust and between 1901 and 1965 the process of restoration took place.  Today Historic Scotland is repsonsible for maintaining the building, this is a continual process, as can be scene from the scaffolding.
