House 1 in the 5,000 year old settlement at Skara Brae. As seen today House 1 is part of the second phase of later and slightly larger houses at Skara Brae. Part of its northern wall and possible further chambers were lost to the sea before the modern sea defences were built. At the time of habitation the settlement was not on the coast due to lower sea levels.
