A view of the "hurricane bow" of USS Intrepid. Intrepid is a WWII Essex class Aircraft Carrier of the US navy and was first commissioned in 1943. She was built with an open bow to accomodate anti-aircraft turrets but during a 1950's re-fit these were removed and the bow you see today added along with the angled flight deck. Today Intrepid is the Intrepid Air & Space Museum and is permanently anchored on the Hudson at New York City.
