A carpet of cherry blossom covers the ground at Maxton Gardens. The Garden is a memorial to James Maxton, MP, gifted by his wife after his death in 1946. Maxton grew up in barrhead after his father was appointed headmaster of Grahamston school in 1888. in 1922 he was elected member of Parliament for Bridgeton where he server as MP until his death in 1946.
