The Ukranian Memorial, Hallmuir, near Lockerbie
In 1947 450 Ukranian Prisoners of War were transferred from Italy to start a new life in Scotland. If they had been returned to Stalinist Russia their future would have been uncertain. They were housed in an empty POW camp here at Hallmuir. Many ended up working on local farms and staying in the area. All that remains is the hut that they made into a Ukranian style Chapel and this memorial. Map location.
