A place steeped in history, the present Palace was built in 1808 for the Earl of Mansfield. Scone was an ancient gathering place for the Picts, later, between 1114 and 1559 Scone was one of Scotland's major abbeys, during this time it often housed Scotland's Parliament and was where Scottish Kings were crowned. Kings were crowned on the famous "stone of destiny", a replica of which can be seen in this photo. The real Stone of Destiny lies safely in Edinburgh Castle, or does it? but thats another story
