The ruins of Strome Castle
This 15th century castle was a focus for the fighting between Clan MacDonald and Clan Mackenzie. The final conflict was in 1602 when the MacDonalds had been under siege by the Mackenzies for a long time. The story goes that water was accidentally poured in barrels of Gunpowder forcing the Macdonalds to surrender. Map location.
